Istria: Sunny Peninsula on the Adriatic
The sky and the sea compete in radiating the most beautiful shades of blue. Around the many bays, harbor towns with old narrow streets, medieval towers, and colorful, closely-packed houses wind their way. Behind them stretch the green hills and mountains of the hinterland with ancient towns and impressive natural beauties. The tip of Istria, the sunny peninsula on the crystal-clear Adriatic, impresses and invites you to a few unforgettable holiday moments.
Istria: Italian Character and a Wonderful Summer Climate
A characteristic of Istria is its Italian character. Comparisons with Tuscany are inevitable: in terms of architecture, nature, and gastronomy, combined with the friendly Croatian way of life and hospitality. Enjoy it. Istria has a Mediterranean climate with sunny, dry summer months and a sea breeze that always provides a bit of cooling.
Ružići: The Best of Both Worlds
Ružići is an authentic, rural, and sleepy village with only about 50 inhabitants. It is located in the green, mountainous hinterland of Istria. From the property of our holiday villa, you have a phenomenal view over the valley of the Raša, a river that forms one of the most beautiful valleys in Istria.
The landscape around Ružići is intricate, with olive groves, vineyards, and narrow roads with hedges. Nevertheless, you can reach the beaches of Rabac in a short time, or take a trip to the lively Pula, the city with the famous Roman amphitheater. Near our holiday home, you can enjoy the typical Croatian hospitality in restaurants.
Our Tips for Istria
Thanks to the central location of our holiday home in Ružići, the numerous attractions of Istria are within easy reach. We would like to share our tips for Istria with you.
Pula is a large city at the southernmost tip of Istria. It has an old city center with a particularly well-preserved Roman amphitheater from the first century. Outside the gates of Pula lies the Kamenjak Peninsula, where you can walk along hidden bays and beaches.
Off the southwestern coast of Istria lie the Brijuni Islands. You can reach them by boat from Fažana. The entire beautiful archipelago is a national park. Here you will find the Hotel Karmen, the summer residence of the former Yugoslav President Josip Tito, and a beautifully situated golf course.
Stroll through the labyrinthine streets and alleys of Rovinj. The old town, which rises steeply from the sea, is entirely a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rovinj has its roots in Roman times and changed rulers several times but was in the possession of the Venetians for the longest time.
Discover Istrian gastronomy on one of the wine or olive routes. And try the real Istrian truffles - only in restaurants with the "tartufo vero" sign on the wall. Participate in a truffle hunt in the autumn in the surroundings of Motovun, which has a four hundred meter long medieval fortress wall.
