Lucca, part of northern Tuscany, with the nearby sea and the marble mountains in the background, offers its visitors plenty of variety between vineyards and olive groves. Florence and Pisa are relatively easy to reach. The old town of Lucca itself is a jewel with its defiant houses and the intact city wall of 4.4 km length, which you can walk or cycle around. Of Etruscan origin, it still shows relics from Roman times and all subsequent centuries.
