Holiday destination
Vacation in a holiday apartment in Senj.
The town of Senj with its 9,000 inhabitants lies in the north part of the Kvarner Bay. The wonderful region on the Adriatic coast offers holidaymakers unforgettable days between the surrounding mountain ranges on one side and the sea on the other.
The unparalleled natural scenery is as much a part of the holidaymaker's memory as the pleasant climate and many excursion possibilities. Everyone will find just the right activity for their holiday here.
The summer offers countless hours of sunshine and little rain, ideal to spend some time on the wonderful sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast. Winter, on the other hand, is a little more humid, but still predominantly sunny and blessed with mild temperatures. Perfect for hikes in the surrounding area or day trips to the surrounding countryside. In and around Senj there is always something to experience. There's no such thing as boredom here.
As soon as you arrive in Senj, you will already pass by the first attraction. Since the 18th century baroque-style city gate has been standing here and still impresses everyone who passes it. But this unique city gate is not the symbol of Senj, no. The landmark of the city is the impressive fortress called Nehaj, which served as the backdrop for the film adaptation of "Red Zora and Her Gang" and thus became famous. Once a remarkable defensive structure, the Nehaj fortress is now a wonderful lookout point over the surrounding area and the sea. You should not miss a visit to the fortress solely because of its wonderful view of the city and the coast.
Not far from Senj is the village of Senjska Draga, which is well worth a day trip. Here, for example, you can visit a mausoleum dating from 1848 - perhaps a little spooky, but definitely unforgettable for every visitor.
Also for nature lovers there are wonderful excursion destinations surrounding Senj. A whole range of national parks can be found here. The Plitvice Lakes National Park, for example, is about 70 kilometres away, and its 300 square kilometres are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Beautiful trails past small springs, but also waterfalls and several caves mark the landscape and make the national park a unique experience, which is recommended to every visitor to the area.
