The kilometer-long fine sandy beach is perfect for long beach walks with views of the mountains, and the nature park of the Apuan Alps offers numerous hiking trails. For a lovely short stroll, the sea piers in Forte dei Marmi as well as in Marina di Massa are great options. From here, excursion boats also depart for the Cinque Terre.
Holiday destination
A winding road leads uphill, offering magnificent views of the sea and mountains.
Beach resorts and a larger free beach area are about 8 km away. In the exclusive Forte dei Marmi with its designer shops, there is a large market every Wednesday where you can find many bargains.
Beautiful hiking trails in the mountains with sea views start at about 9 km distance.
La Formica is also an ideal starting point for visits to Tuscan art cities like Lucca, Pisa, and Florence, which are quickly accessible thanks to the good highway connections.
Carrara, the city of white marble, is not far away, and there are regular boat services to the Cinque Terre in the summer.
Getting there
Take the A1 motorway and at Parma, take the A12 towards La Spezia until you reach the La Spezia – Firenze/Livorno fork. Continue towards Firenze/Livorno until the Massa/Montignoso exit. Shortly after exiting, turn right towards Mare/Marina di Massa. Stay on this road until you reach the sea road after about 1 km. Here, turn left and after exactly 4.8 km, turn left at the traffic light. Stay on this road until you reach the large traffic light intersection with Via Aurelia. Continue straight ahead and follow this road leading uphill until you turn left towards Serra. Follow the winding road and at the fork, turn left into the narrow Via dei Fiori, which leads downhill.

Sehr Empfehlenswert!
