5 examples of hikes around Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines:
1. Fenarupt Circuit, distance 7.6 km
From our farm, walk down the road and then immediately head up the dirt road past the back of our farm and continue for 200 metres.
Walk to the edge of the forest to enjoy a beautiful view of Ste-Marie-aux-Mines.
Retrace your steps and take the path that leads 180° up the mountainside.
Continue to Place des Tilleuls.
Pass the picnic area and continue on along the level path.
After a while, the path crosses an old trail and begins to descend to the main path called the Chemin du Fenarupt.
At the bend, take the lower path for 500 metres and then head along the path that goes up to the left and leads to a wider path that'll take you to the Grand Plaine.
Continue to the right along the wide, flat path and then, a little further on, take the path that descends to the left and leads you to the Roche des Corbeaux.
Turn right below the rock and follow the path to the valley floor. At the bridge, turn left and head downwards.

Lovingly renovated farmhouse in a quiet, secluded location on the edge of the forest on the border between Alsace and the Vosges with fantastic views of meadows, forests and down into the valley across to the town of Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines (only a 5-minute drive away). You can access various hiking trails right from the farm itself; it's ideal for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, tobogganing, etc.; opportunities to go cross-country skiing and downhill skiing are also available in the immediate vicinity.
Swimming lakes accessible within 40-45 minutes by car.
By car:
If you're coming from the direction of Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines, head towards Col de Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines (St- Dié). Don't go through the tunnel!
Drive almost the entire way through the town until you reach a crossroads (you'll see a large car park on your left and a café/antique shop called "Café de La Marne" on the corner on your right). When you get there, turn right (sign for "Hôpital", the town's retirement home). Immediately after passing the retirement home on the left-hand side, you'll see a narrow, asphalt road heading up between some meadows. Continue up this asphalt road (keep bearing left and don't head up the gravel road!). Then you'll arrive directly at our farm!
In winter: Please be aware that there may be snow and ice. Think about kitting out your car with some good winter gear – winter tyres and snow chains.
