Holiday destination
Callantsoog is a well-known family-friendly seaside resort situated directly on the North Sea coast. It's the ideal retreat for both the young and the old. There are few locations that are better. Located just 12 km south of Den Helder, Callantsoog is one of the most famous and popular seaside and holiday resorts on the Dutch North Sea coast. One of the advantages of Callantsoog is its proximity to the sea, as the town is situated right behind the particularly narrow strip of dunes at this point. Additionally, the pleasant atmosphere in the town center with its many shops, restaurants, and café terraces adds to its charm.
A large part of the dunes at Callantsoog is part of Zwanenwater, a 550-hectare nature reserve. The fauna and flora of this accessible reserve are widely known among biologists. It is also home to the largest colony of spoonbills in Europe. Further excursions can be made to Den Helder, about 20 km away, with its Navy Museum. The historic towns of Hoorn, Medemblik, and Enkhuizen are also within easy reach. Amsterdam is just under an hour's drive away.
The weather is also an important factor. The area around Callantsoog enjoys many hours of sunshine, more than most areas in Holland. Here, you have a roughly 40 km long, white, fine sandy beach. The beaches are guarded during the summer months and there are organized games for little children. The largest leisure park in North Holland, with many attractions, is located about 5 km away in St. Maartenzee.
