Getting there
Car:
Arriving by car is probably the most common method. Address Port Holwerd: Grândyk 2b 9151 AE Holwerd
However, you can only reach the island by ferry from the port in Holwerd. Here you have the option to leave your car at the port for a fee or take it with you to the island. If you decide to take your car on the ferry, especially during the summer months, you should reserve a spot for your car on the ferry in advance, as there is only a limited number of spaces available (about 72 cars) per trip.

Public (Bus and Train):
If you wish to travel by public transport, you should book a train to Leeuwarden. There you can directly take bus line 66, which will take you to the port in Holwerd without changing (travel time approx. 1h). However, always pay attention to the ferry times so that you are sure to catch a boat. At the port of Ameland, you can then either take bus line 130 to Ballum, or comfortably take a taxi. These are always waiting on-site for passengers upon ferry arrival. For those who are physically active, there is also the option to rent a bicycle immediately upon arrival. Bus connections from Leeuwarden to Holwerd can be found at connexxion.nl
