It is located 200 m from Hidropark Alcudia water park, 500 m from Lago Menor, 1 km from Puerto Alcuda city, 2 km from Club de Golf Alcanada golf course, 3 km from Alcudia Old town city, 4 km from S´Albufera and 65 km from Marineland amusement park / theme park and Palma Aquarium amusement park.
The vibrant city of Alcúdia, located in the north of the island, offers cultural events and attractions throughout the year that you can enjoy in the different seasons. Only a kilometer away is the small tourist town Port d’Alcúdia, an ideal place to get to know and discover part of the Mallorcan tradition without having to go too far.
Alcúdia has become a meeting point thanks to its historical jewels and cultural interest. Below we offer all the information you need to discover this fascinating walled city.
The historic center of Alcúdia, surrounded by the only completely preserved wall in all of Mallorca, was erected in the 14th century, under the mandate of King Jaume II to protect the inhabitants of Alcúdia. However, this was not enough to ward off pirates, who attacked the city over and over again during the 16th century, causing large numbers of inhabitants to flee. Today it is difficult to imagine that this vibrant city was once at risk of being totally abandoned. Fortunately, the construction of a port in 1779 saved Alcúdia from a decline.
The historic center has been restored without losing a hint of its charm. L0 that once were busy streets full of merchants have become a large pedestrian area that invites you to stroll through this city.
The pedestrian zone offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafes with beautiful terraces and cozy patios, craft shops, boutiques and Mallorcan specialties. Take a walk through the different medieval houses, the town hall and the so-called Manor Houses, the majestic houses of the nobles. Walking through the alleys you can see some of the shady courtyards of these houses as you approach the wall.
This former site is also the protagonist of a unique experience, which never ceases to amaze both visitors and residents. During the summer months, the walled city becomes the scene of various outdoor concerts and theatrical performances. The different musical styles that range from medieval classical music to jazz enchant the audience and the history of Alcúdia is the central theme of the plays. Dressed in period costumes, the actors give new life to the key characters in the history of Alcúdia and Mallorca. Entrance is not paid and the program can pick you up at the tourist office.
You can not miss the famous outdoor market in Alcúdia. Every Tuesday and Sunday there are two main sections: one is dedicated to local producers and another is where you will find all kinds of products from shoes, bags, jewelry, clothes and of course, souvenirs.
