The maritime resort of Glowe is in a picturesque, fine sandy Baltic beach on the bay of Tromper Wiek. The resort is an up and coming holiday destination. The beautiful beach promenade with spa is perfect for strolling. Directly on the promenade, there is the symbol of Glowe, the "Pearl of the Baltic" built in 1968. Today, in the monument listed, unique glass building, there is a modern restaurant with sea terrace and wonderful view of the water.
On the "Königshorn" sea cliff, there is a new marina with restaurant, boat rental, fishing tours and boat tours to the Hiddensee. Organized or independent sailing tours in all directions round out the offering. The small Cape Königshorn with its viewing tower offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Tromper Wiek to the famous Cape Arkona.
Glowe is the ideal location for cycling tours. Whether short or long - everyone will find a tour they love. Short tours lead to the Spykerschen See or to the salt marsh coast of Glowe, longer rides to Cape Arkona or along the Jasmund salt marshes to Lietzow. Bikes can be hired right on the Baltic park, only two minutes by foot from the holiday home.
Glowe has ideal conditions for sports fishing. With the right equipment and some experience, you can catch codfish or sea trout in the sea or tidal surges. Fishing licenses can be bought from the port master or at petrol stations.
About 12 km away in the village of Lohme, Ranzow Castle has a beautiful 18 hole golf course with a view of the Baltic Sea, which is good for all golfers.
The 10 km "Schaabe" starts at the western edge of the village of Glowe, the largest spit on Rügen. It connects the Wittow peninsular with Jasmund and separates the huge Jasmund salt marshes from the sea. The white sandy beach of the Schaabe appears endless and is bordered by dunes and pine forests. It offers great surfing areas and some naturist beaches.
The 30 m2 Jasmund national park, which is about 12 km from Glowe, is known for its lovely beech forests and the unmistakeable beauty of the world famous white chalk cliffs. Here there are the so-called Wissower Klinken and the Königsstuhl, the symbol of Rügen.
Getting there
You will reach Glowe from Stralsund via the B96 (Stralsund-Altefähr-Samtens-Bergen-Lietzow-Sagard). Follow the L30 to Glowe. There turn after 500 m after the sign for Glowe village into Am Süssliing or Am Pappelwald, then after 100 m take a left and you'll see the Baltic Sea park of Glowe, Espenweg. You have reached your destination.

Host informationWe fell in love with the sunny island of Rügen on our first visit. When we drive along the Schaabe with its pine forests, we always think of our student days and the drive with the 2CV Duck along the Atlantic coast of France.
