"Place Voltaire" is a large four-column house in one of the smallest round villages in Wendland.
The guest apartment is located in the back of the house and opens onto the garden, beyond which you have...
Special features
Throughout the year there is an abundant range of events that include music, theatre, literature and visual arts. The combination of old and new structures offers experiences for both mind and body. 12 museums, the Platenlaase...
Recommended excursions include: the old Hanseatic city of Lüneburg, with the ferry across the Elbe to the Dömitz Fortress, to the Hundertwasser train station in Uelzen, across the former German border to the old Hanseatic city of Salzwedel, to the Arendsee, to Luwigsburg Castle and the Linnaeus Garden. Or perhaps the cathedral of Havelberg. A guided canoe tour at night on the Elbe is also recommended. Or an organ concert in the Graflich Bernstoff baroque church in Gartow. Those who like flea markets will be satisfied; wolf lovers can follow in the tracks of these impressive animals. If you're lucky, there will be another international puppet theatre festival this year.
Holiday destination
Zeetze has 27 inhabitants. The fields around the village belong to organic farmers. Paths and small streets in the area are well suited for running and cycling (bikes can be rented).
Because of its location along the former border zone, the landscape has remained largely intact and sparsely populated. Lots of nature, few cars.
A particularly lively art and culture scene has developed in Wendland, not least because of the "Atomic Problem Gorleben".
Getting there
The most convenient option is having your own car. The Wendland is so extensive that it's a challenge to handle everything by bike.
But if you prefer to travel by train, you can be picked up from the train station in Dannenberg, Schnega or Salzwedel.
Host informationWe are a freelance painter/set designer and freelance journalist team, originally from Berlin and the Harz region. We've been living "in the countryside" here in Wendland for a long time and are more than satisfied.
It really has grown on us. We love our rural neighbours and our intellectual friends. And we look forward to welcoming you to "Place Voltaire"!
