There are good shopping facilities, numerous restaurants and cafes in the close proximity. The entire city is within walking distance. The city is located on Rio Gilao, about 1 km before its mouth in the Atlantic, on the edge of a lagoon (Nature reserve Ria Formosa).
On the offshore islands you can find kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches, which can be reached by the holiday house in different ways by vehicle and also within walking distance by boat or passenger ferry. The house is authentic but comfortable and offers a cosy atmosphere. You live quietly, but still in the middle of the southern flair. The large market hall, the modern library, the museum and the exhibition hall as well as numerous small and large shops and not least a few historic churches and buildings are just a few minutes away. The mountains of the Serra are also near by and inviting.
Golf: 6 golf courses are available within 20 minutes (inter alia: Monte Rei); in 30 minutes
You can reach more than a dozen among others (inter alia: San Lorenzo, Vilamoura)
Holiday destination
Style of the house and historical integration: The holiday house is located in the heart of the old town directly on the evening-blasted city wall of Tavira.
The origins of this city, which is characterized by a morbid charm, extend back to around 3000 BC. to the Turdulers and Phoenicians. The Romans, Spaniards and Moors characterised the city during the varied history. Testimonies of this past are everywhere: the Roman bridge, patrician houses with Renaissance faces, the old Moorish Castelo, archways originated in the North African Kasbas, patios, atrium gardens and courtyards, stairs of light and pagoda-style "Quadro Aguas roofs" . Tavira has 38 churches and chapels, nowhere else in the south of Portugal can one find so much sacred architecture in one place.
Getting there
Faro airport (+ rental car, bus / taxi) - about 35 km
Most of our guests travel via Faro Airport and take a rental car (we are happy to arrange a cheap rate with a local car rental partner). The arrival via Lisbon is also easy by train or bus.
Some of our guests plan to spend more time on their holidays / a round trip - therefore, here further distances to the nearest airports except Faro
Lisbon airport (+ rental car, bus or train) - about 300 km
Seville airport (+ rental car) - about 186 km
Jerez de la Frontera airport (+ rental car) - about 265 km
Host informationWe are retired since 2010 and spend several months per year in our second home Tavira. We particularly love the winter months (Nov. to Feb.), so the spring starts already in January with with almond blossom etc. The summer (June to Sept.) is also marvellous because it rarely gets hot at the Atlantic and the nights are wonderfully mild. But also in the rest of the year the Algarve is always worth a trip.
Our holiday house Laluleva is very nice, but had only a roof terrace and no level patio, because house exactly fills the property . Through the purchase of the neighbouring property and the restoration of a building protected by a monument, we succeeded in creating two usable properties and houses, to be used separately or in conjunction, which make it possible to spend our holidays with our children and grandchildren.
